Substation Electrician - Leading Hand

About the Role
Our Energy & Utilities business is seeking Leading Hand Electricians with Substation experience to join us on both brownfield and greenfield construction projects in South Australia. As a successful applicant, you will be promoting a safe work environment whilst leading a small team in undertaking hands-on electrical works in high-voltage substation environments, supporting the safe, compliant, and productive delivery of utility-scale projects for TNSPs and DNSPs. The position goes beyond general electrical duties and is focused on specialist substation activities, strict safety controls, and working within EA-driven project environments. These positions are local to Adelaide on a 5/2 roster, however suitable candidates from further afield may be considered on a 10/4 roster with LAFHA if required. 

Duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

• Electrical installation, termination, and testing of primary and secondary systems within transmission and distribution substations

• Substation equipment works including, switchgear, transformers, bays and panels, protection relays, control panels, and marshalling kiosks

• Interpreting and working from schematics, wiring diagrams and protection drawings, switching schedules, work packs, and test plans

• Performing electrical testing, fault finding, and commissioning in accordance with network standards, AS/NZS 3000, and project specifications

• Working safely within live and high-risk environments under permit-to-work systems, isolation, earthing and switching procedures

• Working flexible hours including shutdowns, night works, weekend works and roster cycles in line with project requirements and the Enterprise Agreement

About You

• A relevant state recognised electrical licence
• Demonstrated experience leading teams in substations, utilities, or large-scale electrical infrastructure projects
• Confident working in high-risk HV environments with strict safety and compliance requirements
• Ability to work effectively on EA-covered projects, including shift work, roster cycles, and remote work as required
• A strong safety mindset and the discipline required for regulated network environments
• Exceptional communication and time management skills
