Alliance Geotechnical is a leading geotechnical and environmental consultancy, delivering practical solutions across infrastructure, development and construction projects. Established in 2003, Alliance has built a strong reputation for technical expertise, exceptional service, and a commitment to helping clients navigate complex ground and environmental challenges.

Our people are at the heart of our success. We foster a collaborative and supportive environment where initiative is valued, continuous improvement is encouraged, and careers can grow alongside the business. Guided by our values and commitment to safety, quality and innovation, we’re proud to deliver practical solutions through our exceptional people.

The Opportunity

We’re seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our growing Sydney team.

As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will be leading Alliance’s geotechnical project across the project lifecycle from investigation through to CPS of increasing complexity. You will generally be guiding the Project Manager on simpler projects or be the Project Manager for more complex projects. You will undertake routine site meetings and undertake non-routine CPS inspections necessitating bespoke site reports as required. At senior you have at least two specialisations within geotechnical engineering in which you are the go-to person of the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead geotechnical projects end-to-end, from investigation through to completion, acting as Project Manager on complex work and Project Director on smaller ones – guiding less experienced engineers along the way.
  • Manage large-scale drill rig and hand tool investigations, coordinating subcontractors such as drill rigs, excavators, traffic control and service locators, and working alongside the team coordinator to keep projects on track.
  • Run and contribute to tenders and proposals, helping win new work while managing risk on higher-value bids.
  • Train and direct engineers in specialist investigation techniques (such as SCPTu, SDMT, packer testing and groundwater monitoring), reviewing their fieldwork, logs and reports.
  • Complete and review interpretative reports and complex CPS inspections across a broad range of project types, taking personal pride in the quality of every output.
  • Build strong client relationships through site meetings and clear technical direction, making sure projects land on the right solution for the client.
  • Keep projects on time, on budget and to standard – monitoring financial performance and coaching project managers on how to improve it.
  • Champion safety and quality, complying with WHS, environmental and IMS requirements and helping build a positive, zero-harm culture on every site.

About You

  • Degree qualified in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, or a related discipline.
  • 8-10+ years’ experience in a geotechnical engineering or engineering geology role
  • A member of a relevant professional body, and actively working toward (or holding) Chartered status.
  • Solid experience in geotechnical engineering, with at least two specialisations you’re known as the go-to person for.
  • Proven track record managing large or complex projects, including subcontractor coordination and field oversight of drill rig and hand tool investigations.
  • Confident preparing or contributing to tenders and proposals, with a sharp eye for scope, risk and client needs.
  • A natural mentor who enjoys training, directing and reviewing the work of less experienced engineers.
  • Organised and commercially minded, with a history of keeping projects on time, on budget and to a high standard.
  • Genuinely safety-focused, and committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive and respectful team environment.
  • Current White Card & Drivers Licence
