Principal Structural Engineer | Regional Market Lead (Transport)

We are seeking an experienced Principal Structural Engineer | Regional Market Lead (Transport) to join our Brisbane team and play a key role in the continued growth of our Structural Engineering and Transport Infrastructure profile across Queensland.

About the Role

This is a combined technical and market leadership position. As Principal Structural Engineer, you will lead the delivery of complex structural engineering projects across bridges, transport infrastructure and civil structures, providing technical leadership, guidance and review across project teams.

As Regional Market Lead (Transport), you will help lead the growth of Rockfield’s transport market across the state. Working closely with Rockfield’s national market, technical and project leaders, you will build strategic client and industry relationships, understand client goals and emerging needs, identify and progress opportunities, and help shape services that deliver long-term value.

You will also contribute to the Queensland transport market strategy, support multidisciplinary pursuits and proposals, and represent Rockfield across relevant client and industry forums strengthening our reputation for technical excellence, quality service and practical engineering outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage structural engineering projects from proposal through to completion.
• Deliver technical assessments and investigations of bridges and civil infrastructure assets. Technical support on civil structures for the Resource sector may also be required from time to time.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to engineers across project teams.
• Manage project scopes, budgets, schedules and client expectations.
• Build and sustain strategic relationships with key clients, industry partners and stakeholders, acting as a trusted advisor and seeking feedback on Rockfield’s performance.
• Prepare and review technical reports, proposals and engineering documentation.
• Identify, qualify and progress business opportunities that align client needs with Rockfield’s structural engineering and broader multidisciplinary capabilities.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of a Queensland client and services plan aligned with Rockfield’s broader market strategy and growth priorities.
• Work with Rockfield’s Pursuit Team and relevant technical leaders to coordinate multidisciplinary pursuits and prepare compelling proposals, tenders and client presentations.
• Collaborate with National and Regional Market Leads, Client Service Leads and teams across Rockfield to leverage relationships and expand the scale and diversity of services provided to clients.
• Monitor market activity, client priorities and emerging opportunities, providing informed input into pipeline planning, market positioning and service development.
• Represent Rockfield at relevant client, industry and professional forums to strengthen relationships, visibility and market reputation.

About You

Essential Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor of Engineering (Civil/Structural).
• Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng).
• Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ).
• Significant experience within a consulting engineering environment.
• Strong background in bridge assessment, inspections and transport infrastructure projects.
• Experience working across a broad range of civil and structural assets.
• Demonstrated project management and project delivery experience.
• Strong technical capability with the ability to provide leadership and direction to engineering teams.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Demonstrated ability or drive to build strategic client relationships, understand client business goals and translate needs into valued services and opportunities.
• Strong commercial awareness and demonstrated contribution to business development, opportunity conversion and sustainable market growth.

Highly Desirable

• Experience in asset management, rehabilitation and life-extension projects.
• Established and trusted relationships across the Queensland transport and civil infrastructure sectors, including asset owners, government agencies, delivery partners and industry stakeholders.
• Experience leading and coordinating multidisciplinary proposals, tenders, pursuits and client presentations.
• Relevant experience and/or keen interest in technology applications for bridge management i.e. bridge monitoring, SHM, digital twins, etc.
