About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a Class 1 Master Mariner to join our Loadmaster team. This role is Fly in Fly Out (FIFO) from Perth on a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off roster, supporting vessel loading operations at the Port of Ashburton, Western Australia.
Working primarily onboard vessels at anchorage, you will act as the client’s representative during transhipment loading activities, conduct draft surveys, coordinate with vessels, terminal personnel, and stakeholders to ensure cargo operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with loading plans and operational requirements.
The successful candidate will join a highly experienced team and play a key role in supporting bulk cargo operations in one of Western Australia’s most important export regions.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee vessel loading operations at anchorage including reviewing load plans.
- Coordinate loading activities between vessels, terminals, and shore-based stakeholders.
- Monitor cargo loading progress and ensure compliance with approved loading plans.
- Optimise loading sequences to maximise operational efficiency.
- Verify cargo quantities and loading data throughout operations.
- Maintain accurate operational records and reports.
- Communicate effectively with vessel crews, terminal operators, clients, and cargo interests.
- Monitor compliance with safety, environmental, and operational requirements.
- Identify and escalate operational issues and contribute to timely resolutions.
- Represent Propel Marine and our clients professionally during all loading activities.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Class 1 Master Mariner Certificate of Competency (or equivalent).
- Previous experience as a Master, Chief Officer, Loadmaster, Port Captain, Marine Superintendent, or a similar operational maritime role.
- Strong understanding of bulk cargo loading operations.
- Experience working with vessels at anchorage and/or export terminal environments.
- Sound knowledge of maritime safety and operational practices.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Current MSIC (or ability to obtain one).
- Valid Australian Driver’s Licence.
- Australian working rights.
