About the role

We are seeking an experienced Cost Controller to join our Operations team and support the successful commercial and financial delivery of our project based in Cooma, New South Wales. This is a FIFO role working a 14 days on / 7 days off roster. Reporting to the Commercial Manager, this role will be responsible for administering and controlling project costs, supporting monthly reporting and forecasting, and ensuring supplier and subcontract agreements are financially reviewed and managed in line with company requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordinate monthly cost reviews, forecasting and project cost reporting to support accurate and timely commercial decision making
  • Manage revenue and cost reporting, including labour, plant and equipment, suppliers, materials, margins, bill rates and utilisation
  • Track accruals, spent hours, forecast costs to complete, cash flow and earned value reporting across the project lifecycle
  • Collate, review and ensure the accuracy of head contract, subcontractor and supplier progress claims
  • Support the Commercial Manager and project team with contractual correspondence, claims responses, variations and commercial risk management
  • Maintain accurate financial data, cost reports, procurement registers, contract records and project documentation
  • Review subcontractor and supplier terms and conditions, pricing, progress claims, variations, securities and close-out documentation
  • Support RFQ, procurement and tender activities, including commercial evaluations, award recommendations and contract documentation
  • Liaise with project teams, client representatives, suppliers and subcontractors to ensure cost information is captured and communicated effectively
  • Identify project cost risks, opportunities and process improvements while supporting compliance with company policies, delegations and QHSE requirements

About you

  • Relevant qualification in Business, Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent industry experience
  • Minimum five years’ project financial or cost control experience, ideally across at least two previous project environments
  • Experience working in a project delivery environment, with FIFO experience highly regarded
  • Strong cost control, financial reporting, forecasting, cash flow, change management and commercial administration capability
  • Highly numerate, analytical and detail focused, with the ability to identify trends, errors, risks and opportunities quickly
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, with exposure to Sage X3 ERP or similar systems desirable
  • Good understanding of project scheduling and the relationship between schedule, cost, productivity and commercial outcomes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear reports and commercial documentation
  • Strong negotiation, influencing, problem-solving, planning and stakeholder management skills
  • A proactive, resilient and collaborative approach, with a strong focus on safety, quality, compliance and continuous improvement
