We are seeking an experienced and highly operational Workforce Manager to lead the end-to-end delivery, governance and optimisation of workforce operations across the iconic Australian Open and year-round venue activity at Melbourne Park.
This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing workforce planning, high-volume recruitment, mobilisation, scheduling, reporting and labour cost optimisation across a workforce spend exceeding $15 million annually.
You will play a critical role in ensuring workforce readiness and performance across one of Australia’s largest and most dynamic major events, while driving scalable, sustainable workforce models that support ongoing venue operations.
About the Role
Reporting into senior leadership, you will act as the Head of Workforce, leading both Workforce Engagement and Workforce Operations teams to deliver efficient, compliant and commercially aligned outcomes.
This role is hands-on and operational, requiring a leader who can move seamlessly between strategy and execution, particularly in high-pressure, fast-paced event environments.
- Lead the Workforce function, providing direction, governance and accountability across all operations
- Deliver and optimise workforce planning aligned to operational demand and a $15M+ labour budget
- Establish operating rhythms, decision-making frameworks and scalable workforce models
- Partner with Finance and Operations to drive labour efficiency and commercial performance
- Oversee end-to-end high-volume recruitment, onboarding and workforce mobilisation
- Ensure integrity of workforce systems (e.g. Deputy), payroll governance and data accuracy
- Drive workforce capability, retention and risk mitigation strategies during peak periods
- Act as a trusted advisor to leaders while embedding compliance, continuous improvement and DEI principles
About You
You are a commercially astute, operational workforce leader with experience managing large, complex and fast-paced environments.
You bring:
- Proven experience leading workforce operations at scale (events, venues, hospitality, aviation, or similar)
- Strong expertise in workforce planning, labour modelling and cost optimisation
- Experience managing high-volume recruitment and mobilisation
- Strong systems capability (workforce planning tools such as Deputy highly regarded)
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive outcomes across multiple teams
- A hands-on leadership style with the ability to operate under pressure
- Strong analytical and reporting capability
