Trainee Mechanical Designer

Based in Kurri Kurri NSW, the Trainee Mechanical Designer will develop the skills through on-the-job training to support the design team in developing mechanical equipment from concept through to detailed production design, ensuring design solutions meet the mechanical system’s requirements and best industry standards.

You will gain exposure to budget and project planning, conceptual design, modelling, drafting, documentation, project standards and manufacturing processes, with the opportunity to build your skills in a practical engineering environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist mechanical engineers with modelling, detailing and preparation of general arrangement drawings.
• Develop detailed drawings from models, sketches and existing documentation.
• Create component and assembly models based on technical specifications using Autodesk Inventor.
• Check drawings for accuracy, consistency and compliance with project and company standards.
• Work collaboratively with engineers, designers, workshop teams, suppliers and customers to support practical design solutions.
• Apply safe design practices and follow NEPEAN procedures, policies and WHS requirements.

You are a proactive, detail-focused person who is eager to learn and build a career in mechanical design. You enjoy working as part of a team, communicating clearly and taking on new challenges in a technical environment.

• Previous exposure to mechanical drafting, design or engineering principles is desirable.
• Previous experience or interest in AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor and Vault
• Well-developed Microsoft Office skills.
• Strong attention to detail with good organisational and time management skills.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a team and follow direction from senior engineers and designers.
• A commitment to safe work practices and continuous learning.
