Civil Engineer

Ingenia Consulting is a South Australian engineering firm delivering structural and mechanical engineering solutions across industrial, mining, materials handling, commercial, and infrastructure sectors.

We have built our business around a simple idea: good engineering comes from capable people who are trusted to take ownership and do meaningful work.

While we are growing, we are intentional about keeping the mindset that has shaped our team from the beginning — low bureaucracy, direct communication, strong accountability, and engineers who are closely connected to the projects they deliver. We value practical thinking, sound judgement, and people who are willing to step up and make an impact.

Our projects are often technically challenging and require engineers who enjoy solving real problems and working directly with clients. Here, you are not delivering one small piece of someone else’s project — you are involved in outcomes and trusted to contribute in a meaningful way.

We are looking for an Experienced Structural Engineer who values responsibility, enjoys autonomy, and wants to be part of a team that intends to grow without losing what makes it work.

What Makes This Role Different

– Genuine project ownership Take responsibility for projects and contribute across the full lifecycle — from concept through to construction support.

– Direct access to leadership Work closely with our General Manager and Lead Structural Engineer in a collaborative environment with minimal hierarchy.

– Technically challenging work Industrial, mining, and materials handling projects requiring practical thinking and strong engineering judgement.

– Competitive remuneration and bonus opportunities Salary negotiable based on experience, plus monthly profitability bonus.

The Role

This role offers increasing responsibility and genuine project ownership. You will contribute across structural analysis, design, documentation, construction support, and client engagement while helping deliver projects from concept through to completion.

You will work closely with our Lead Structural Engineer and General Manager while operating with a high level of autonomy in day-to-day project delivery.

This position suits an engineer who is technically confident, enjoys taking ownership, and is comfortable working independently while remaining collaborative and team-focused.

As an experienced member of the team, you will also provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and designers where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver structural projects from concept through to construction support, including analysis, design, documentation, and site activities
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships and contribute to project coordination
  • Structural analysis and design of steel and concrete structures in accordance with Australian Standards (AS4100, AS3600, AS1170 series)
  • Design foundations and footing systems, including heavy and piled foundations
  • Prepare and review structural calculations, reports, and technical specifications
  • Coordinate with drafting teams to produce construction-ready documentation
  • Identify and resolve design and construction issues proactively
  • Conduct structural inspections, condition assessments, audits, and certification activities
  • Design platforms, walkways, stairways, and ladders in accordance with AS1657
  • Support internal QA processes and provide guidance to junior staff where required

What We’re Looking For

  • 6-8+ years of structural engineering experience within an Australian consulting environment
  • Experience managing client relationships and communicating confidently with stakeholders
  • Degree qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Strong knowledge of Australian Standards including AS4100, AS3600, AS2870, and AS1170 series
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software such as SpaceGass, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of constructability, structural detailing, and design coordination
  • Experience within industrial, mining, or materials handling sectors is highly regarded
  • Membership with Engineers Australia; MIEAust or progress toward CPEng is advantageous
  • A proactive engineer who takes initiative, communicates clearly, and works confidently with minimal supervision
  • Familiarity with CAD, Revit or BIM workflows is advantageous

Who You Are

  • You have built strong technical capability in structural consulting and are looking for greater ownership and responsibility in your next role.
  • You enjoy solving technically challenging problems, working directly with clients, and seeing projects through from concept to completion.
  • You are confident in your engineering judgement, communicate effectively with clients and colleagues, and take a practical approach to problem solving.
  • You take initiative, identify what needs to happen, and are comfortable working independently while contributing positively within a team environment.
  • You understand that in a smaller business, quality, accountability, and teamwork matter.
