Senior Project Engineer

About the role

The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for leading and managing engineering projects from conception through completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. This role involves overseeing all aspects of project planning, design, execution, and commissioning, as well as providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers. The Senior Project Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams, contractors, and stakeholders to achieve project objectives and contribute to the overall success of the organization. 

Key Responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope definition, schedule development, resource allocation, and risk management. 

• Oversee the engineering design process, ensuring designs meet technical requirements, safety standards, and regulatory guidelines. 

• Develop and manage project budgets, track expenses, and ensure projects are delivered within budget. 

• Develop and manage project schedules, track progress, and ensure projects are completed on time. 

• Lead and mentor project teams, providing technical guidance, training, and support. 

About you

• Minimum of 5 Years engineering experience in the rail industry
• Minimum of 3 Years’ experience with developing and managing project schedules
• Tier 1 / Tier 2 Background: Proven track record delivering major infrastructure projects within a Tier 1 or Tier 2 principal contractor environment
• Rail Infrastructure Expertise: Extensive experience in the delivery of complex rail projects, with a strong understanding of rail construction methodologies and staging
• MTM Proficiency: Demonstrated working knowledge of Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM) Engineering Standards, Policies, and Safety Management Systems (SMS)
• Project planning / management skills
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Civil) required. 
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred. 
• Proven experience in project engineering, with a track record of successfully managing complex projects. 
• Strong understanding of engineering principles, design standards, and construction practices.
