About the Role
With a strong pipeline of projects and increasing opportunities across key industries, GPA Engineering is seeking a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer to join our Adelaide team.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer with approximately 7-15 years' experience who wants to work on technically challenging projects, expand their industry exposure and play a key role in delivering high-quality engineering outcomes.
As part of our growing Civil/Structural team, you'll contribute to a diverse portfolio of projects across oil & gas, mining, materials handling, water and power. Key Duties:
- Lead and undertake civil and structural design, modelling and analysis across a diverse range of projects, including steel, reinforced concrete and timber structures, foundations and supporting infrastructure.
- Undertake condition assessments of existing steel and concrete structures and develop practical recommendations for remediation, strengthening or modification where required.
- Prepare and review engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, reports and other technical documentation, ensuring designs comply with relevant Australian Standards, client requirements and engineering principles.
- Provide technical guidance and undertake design reviews, working closely with engineers, designers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver practical, fit-for-purpose solutions.
- Manage civil and structural projects and packages, including coordination of resources, budgets, schedules, technical deliverables and quality requirements.
- Work across a diverse portfolio of projects for major clients within the hydrocarbons, mining and metals, ports and materials handling, water, power, renewables and defence sectors.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients, understanding their technical and project requirements and identifying opportunities to provide further support.
- Support tenders, proposals and bidding activities, including development of scopes, methodologies, estimates and technical inputs to help secure new work.
- Support the Principal Engineers and discipline leadership in the continued development and growth of the Civil/Structural team in Adelaide.
- Mentor and support junior and intermediate engineers, providing technical guidance, design review and opportunities for professional development.
- Civil design experience, including drainage, earthworks, pavements and roadworks, would be advantageous.
Skills And Experiences
We are looking for a collaborative and technically capable Senior Civil/Structural Engineer with strong problem-solving skills, sound engineering judgement and the ability to take ownership of technical delivery while supporting clients and developing other members of the team.
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Qualifications: Bachelorβs degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an Australian-recognised institution, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- Experience: Approximately 7β15 years of relevant civil and structural engineering experience.
- Professional Accreditation: Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status, or the appropriate level of experience and competency to obtain Chartership.
- Industry Experience: Demonstrated experience in heavy industry sectors such as oil & gas, mining, materials handling, ports, water, power, renewables or similar industrial environments.
- Structural Design: Strong experience in the analysis and design of steel and reinforced concrete structures, foundations and associated supporting infrastructure. Experience with existing structures, brownfield modifications and condition assessments would be highly regarded.
- Civil Design: Experience or exposure to drainage, earthworks, pavements and roadworks would be advantageous.
- Engineering Software: Demonstrated experience using structural analysis and design software such as SpaceGass, Microstran, SAP2000, RAM/Limcon, Strand7 or similar packages.
- Australian Standards: Strong working knowledge of relevant Australian Standards, including AS/NZS 1170, AS 1657, AS 3600, AS 4100 and AS 5100, as applicable.
- Project Delivery: Experience managing engineering activities or design packages, including coordination of resources, deliverables, budgets, schedules and technical quality.
- Technical Leadership: Experience reviewing engineering calculations and drawings, providing technical guidance and mentoring junior and intermediate engineers. Previous experience leading engineering teams will be highly regarded.
- Client Engagement: Experience working directly with clients and project stakeholders. An established industry network and experience developing and maintaining client relationships will be highly regarded.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical matters clearly and work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
