Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement (SSA)

We are on our path towards becoming the Commonwealths "Strategic Shipbuilder" in the West, aiming to be in contract for the Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement (SSA). Join us for this exciting opportunity to be part of continuous naval shipbuilding, contributing and significant work for the Australian Defence Force.

The SSA will establish an overarching program which enables the design and build of vessels at the Henderson Shipyard. The objective of the SSA is to possess the capacity and capability to initially deliver Landing Craft Medium & Heavy for the Australian Army in supporting continuous naval shipbuilding in WA. It will be led by Austal, and will require the engagement of local industry, supply chain and workforce to be successful.

The Opportunity

As part of Austal’s  (SSA) capability, the Scheduler role has extensive experience in program planning and scheduling at an operational level. This role reports to the SSA Planning & Scheduling Manager and ensures accountability for program schedule planning across production, engineering, procurement and related areas to support schedule development and baselining, as well as ongoing maintenance in accordance with required standards and contractual requirements.

A key focus of the responsibility of this role is to ensure schedules are defensible, utilised, and accurate. Preparing predictive analyses, scenario planning and proactive engagement with delivery team members to ensure sound assumptions and robust bases of schedule is paramount to success. The ability to drive best practice in schedule governance and adherence across the delivery community are a key focus area to drive good schedule management.

The Scheduler closely monitors changes to schedules, performs variance analysis and can ensure schedule controls are robust in an Earned Value Management System (EVMS) environment.

What's Involved

  • Support the development and maintain the Planning & Scheduling Framework, ensuring alignment with SSA program goals, contractual requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Support and drive a culture of continuous improvement and adherence to scheduling standards and processes across projects and programs.
  • Introduce best practice in planning across the project management lifecycle and aligned to new materials and product planning capabilities.
  • Provide expert guidance on scheduling in an Earned Value Management (EVM) environment with strong program controls to ensure schedules are accurate, defensible, and meet strategic objectives.
  • Communicate schedule performance results, risks, and changes effectively to stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment across all levels of the organisation.
  • Monitor and report on schedule performance, conduct variance analysis, and implement corrective actions to ensure projects stay on track.
  • Oversee resource management and allocation, ensuring optimal utilisation across multiple projects and driving continuous improvement in scheduling processes and tools.

What’s Required

  • Due to the Security Clearance required for this position, applicants must be an Australian Citizen and eligible to obtain and uphold a Baseline Security Clearance through the Australian Department of Defence.
  • 2-3 years of experience in marine, Defence, complex manufacturing or production industries.
  • Minimum certificate 101, 102 Primavera training / or relevant experience working in a Primavera scheduling role.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proactive leadership to achieve common goals across an organisation.
  • Strong customer service focus.
  • Results orientated, pursues improvements and outcomes while maintaining risk awareness.
  • Earned Value Management System and Defence contract experience.
