Job Description

We are seeking a Principal Mechanical Designer with to join our Brisbane design team. The primary purpose of this position is to provide detailed mechanical designs for multi-disciplinary projects working across sectors supporting works for water management infrastructure (i.e. pump stations and pipelines for water supply and sewerage infrastructure). 
 

You will be responsible for

  • Lead civil and mechanical pipeline design including above ground steel works (brownfield and greenfield), pump station design, mechanical plant design and non-process infrastructure (raw water, process water or water supply)
  • Design of multi-disciplinary complex projects, ensuring design drawings for engineering project work comply with statutory and regulatory requirements and company policies and practices
  • Providing high level technical support for all design drawings for engineering project work
  • Mechanical design of supporting works for water management infrastructure (i.e. mechanical plant, equipment, pump stations and pipelines for Tailings Dams, Creek Diversions, Roads, Drainage Infrastructure)
  • Preparation of construction documentation (mechanical layouts, GA’s, MTO’s, PIDs and isometric views)
  • Preparation for ‘For Review’ deliverables 
  • Contribute to technical innovation and continuous improvement for the design team.
  • Review of design and drafting documentation.
  • Support the well-being, development and resourcing of junior team members.
  • Participate in client management and business development.  

Qualifications

Ideally, you will have 10+ years of experience in a similar role with proven experience with design documentation of mechanical components of multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects in a consultancy environment. In addition, you will also have:

  • Associate Degree or Advanced Diploma of Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent qualification) or significant experience as a senior mechanical designer
  • Knowledge of 3D mechanical design software for use to produce mechanical design drawings across all design lifecycles (prefeasibility to for construction)
  • Advanced understanding of Engineering principles, project objectives, deliverables, project budgets and time frames
  • Ability to produce large / complex design projects using AutoCAD, Inventor and/or Navisworks
  • Strong understanding and familiarity with applicable legislation and technical standards / guidelines.
  • Strong client management capabilities
  • Willingness to coach junior designers with advice on solutions and develop fit-for-purpose solutions to engineering problems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to participate in business develop activities as needed
