Pipelayer – Pipeline Construction

Location: Luddenham, Sydney
Employment Type: Full Time, Fixed Term Contract until end of project in November (Opportunity for potential ongoing work after this)

We are currently seeking experienced and reliable Civil Pipelayer to join our growing Sydney team. This role involves working on major civil and pipeline projects across water, sewer, gas, or infrastructure works.

About the Role

The Pipelayer is responsible for the safe and efficient installation of underground utility infrastructure including water, sewer, stormwater and associated civil works. The role involves working within excavation and trench environments, interpreting plans and levels, laying pipework to specification and ensuring all work is completed in accordance with project requirements, quality standards and safety obligations.



Skills And Experiences

Accountabilities

Pipe Installation

 

  • Install water, sewer, stormwater and associated pipeline infrastructure in accordance with project specifications and approved drawings.

  • Assist with excavation, trench preparation and bedding placement.

  • Lay and align pipes to required line, level and grade tolerances.

  • Install pits, valves, hydrants, fittings, thrust blocks, maintenance structures and associated infrastructure.

  • Ensure correct jointing, connection and installation methods are followed.

  • Assist with pressure testing, leakage testing, commissioning and asset inspections.

  • Carry out backfilling and compaction activities in accordance with project requirements.

  • Work closely with plant operators to safely complete excavation and pipe installation activities.

Reading Plans and Levels

 

  • Read and interpret construction drawings, service plans, specifications and set-out information.

  • Follow survey marks, laser levels and grade control systems.

  • Confirm pipe grades, invert levels and alignment before installation.

  • Identify discrepancies in plans and raise concerns with supervisors.

Utility and Service Protection

 

  • Identify and work safely around underground and overhead services.

  • Comply with Dial Before You Dig (DBYD) information and utility provider requirements.

  • Assist with potholing and service location activities.

  • Exercise caution when working around live water, sewer, electrical, telecommunications and gas assets.

  • Immediately report service strikes, damage or unidentified services.

Trenching and Excavation Safety

 

  • Work safely within excavation and trench environments.

  • Comply with excavation permits, Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), Eire procedures and site safety requirements.

  • Ensure trench access and egress requirements are maintained.

  • Identify and report trench instability, water ingress or unsafe excavation conditions.

  • Never enter an excavation that does not meet safety requirements.

  • Maintain exclusion zones around excavation activities.

Quality Assurance

 

  • Complete all work in accordance with project specifications, drawings and quality requirements.

  • Ensure pipe installations meet required tolerances and alignment standards.

  • Assist with inspections and hold points.

  • Report defects, non-conformances or quality concerns immediately.

  • Maintain a high standard of workmanship and attention to detail.

Safety Responsibilities

 

  • Comply with all workplace health and safety legislation, regulations and company policies.

  • Participate in toolbox talks, pre-start meetings and risk assessments.

  • Correctly use personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Identify and report hazards, incidents and near misses.

  • Follow all reasonable and lawful safety directions.

  • Exercise stop-work authority where immediate safety risks are identified.

Environmental Responsibilities

 

  • Comply with Environmental Management Plans and project environmental controls.

  • Minimise environmental impacts arising from construction activities.

  • Prevent pollution incidents including sediment, fuel and chemical contamination.

  • Protect waterways, vegetation and environmentally sensitive areas.

  • Report environmental incidents immediately.

     

Teamwork and Communication

 

  • Work cooperatively with supervisors, engineers, surveyors, plant operators and other team members.

  • Follow reasonable and lawful directions.

  • Maintain respectful and professional workplace behaviours.

  • Communicate effectively regarding site conditions, progress and issues.

  • Contribute positively to project outcomes and team performance.
