Operations Manager

The Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day leadership, workforce management and operational performance of Wilson Medic One’s frontline field staff.

The role ensures workforce safety, operational readiness, service delivery standards and compliance obligations are consistently achieved across all patient transport operations.

Through visible leadership, coaching and accountability, the Operations Manager builds high-performing teams, drives employee engagement and ensures frontline staff are appropriately trained, equipped and prepared to deliver safe, efficient and patient-centred services.

As the primary operational leader for frontline teams, the role oversees workforce planning, recruitment, induction, performance management, compliance and continuous improvement initiatives.

 

Duties will include:

 

Operational Workforce Leadership

  • Lead and inspire frontline teams across Wilson Medic One’s patient transport operations.
  • Provide visible, hands-on leadership and maintain strong engagement with crews and operational teams.
  • Drive performance against operational KPIs while recognising and celebrating team achievements.
  • Build a culture of accountability, professionalism, teamwork and continuous improvement.
  • Be the key point of escalation for day-to-day workforce and operational matters.

Staff Performance & Development

  • Coach, develop and motivate frontline staff to achieve high performance and service standards.
  • Manage performance and disciplinary matters, including performance improvement processes where required.
  • Lead probation and performance reviews and identify opportunities for career and capability development.
  • Identify capability gaps and implement targeted development plans.
  • Promote employee wellbeing, engagement and a positive team culture.

Fleet & Asset Management

  • Lead and support the Fleet & Assets Coordinator to ensure operational readiness.
  • Ensure vehicles, equipment and assets are safe, compliant, available and fit for purpose.
  • Monitor fleet utilisation, condition and performance and drive improvements where required.
  • Oversee vehicle maintenance, replacement and refurbishment programs.
  • Maintain effective asset registers, inventory controls and audit processes.
  • Contribute to capital planning and identify opportunities to improve asset utilisation and manage operating costs.

Consumables, Inventory & Compliance

  • Ensure appropriate stock levels are maintained across operational locations and vehicles.
  • Oversee the ordering, receiving and distribution of consumables and operational equipment.
  • Maintain effective inventory controls to minimise waste, losses and stock discrepancies.
  • Ensure expiry checks, stock audits and compliance requirements are consistently completed.
  • Support workforce compliance with mandatory qualifications, licences, certifications and clinical currency.
  • Ensure crews operate in line with company procedures, Clinical Practice Guidelines and contractual requirements.
  • Support audit readiness and maintain accurate operational records and documentation.

Workforce Management & Attendance

  • Monitor attendance, punctuality and workforce availability to ensure operational coverage.
  • Ensure crews commence shifts on time and resources are deployed effectively.
  • Address attendance and workforce availability issues and implement corrective actions where required.
  • Work closely with rostering and dispatch teams to support effective workforce planning.
  • Analyse workforce trends and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency.

Health, Safety & Quality

  • Champion a strong safety, quality and wellbeing culture across frontline teams.
  • Ensure hazards, incidents and near misses are reported, investigated and appropriately actioned.
  • Participate in HSE audits and drive completion of corrective actions.
  • Support injury management and return-to-work processes where required.
  • Promote compliance with HSEQ requirements, clinical governance and quality standards.

Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor and report on workforce performance, compliance and operational trends.
  • Use operational data and insights to identify opportunities to improve performance and service delivery.
  • Drive initiatives that improve productivity, compliance, efficiency and customer outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate workforce and operational records.
  • Support key organisational projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

 

 

To be successful in this role, you will require:

 

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a people leadership or operational management role.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing large, frontline operational teams.
  • Strong understanding of workforce performance, employee engagement and employment obligations.
  • Experience in healthcare, emergency services, logistics or transport environments will be highly regarded.
  • Systematic and process-driven, with a strong focus on operational excellence and compliance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
  • Proven ability to build a positive, accountable and high-performing workplace culture.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to represent Wilson Medic One professionally with clients, employees and external stakeholders.
  • Clinical experience will be highly regarded.
