SALARY RANGE: AUD $76515 to $85,000 p.a.
Position Summary
The Metal Fabricator is responsible for the fabrication, assembly, modification, and repair of structural steel and heavy metal components used in the manufacture of heavy-duty transport and bulk haulage equipment. The role requires advanced fabrication skills, the ability to interpret engineering documentation, and strict adherence to safety, quality, and production standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Mark off, measure, and fabricate structural steel and metal stock to manufacture or repair industrial products and structures
- Shape, cut, join, and finish large and heavy metal components
- Pull, press, bend, roll, and shape metal using heavy fabrication machinery and equipment
- Join metal components using welding and bolting techniques
- Seal metal joins and securely fit components such as taps, tubes, valves, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Manufacture and repair components used in heavy-duty transport equipment and bulk haulage applications
- Interpret and apply engineering drawings, layouts, developments, and welding symbols
- Ensure all fabrication work complies with engineering specifications, quality standards, and workplace safety requirements
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment at all stages of production
- Assist with material planning and job allocation where required
- Provide guidance and support to other team members when necessary
Skills and Experience Required
- Suitable certification or at least 3 years of relevant experience which may substitute formal qualifications.
- Proven relevant experience as a Metal Fabricator or Boilermaker
- Proven experience in industrial or heavy equipment manufacturing
- Extensive experience working with structural steel and heavy fabrication
- Demonstrated ability to fabricate and repair industrial and heavy-duty equipment components
- Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and welding symbols
- Strong skills in layout preparation and metal development
- Experience fitting hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Ability to work independently and as part of a production team
- Previous experience in a team leadership or supervisory capacity is highly regarded
