Embark on an exciting journey as a Mechanical Field Engineer, at a dynamic company at the forefront of cutting-edge engineering solutions. In this contract role, you'll have the opportunity to apply your practical expertise in mechanical systems engineering, testing, commissioning and contribute to mechanical design improvements initiatives to tackle complex challenges and support the continued growth of this innovative organisation.

About the Company

My client is an Australian engineering-led marine robotics company reinventing ocean operations with low‑emissions, long-range surface systems that gather and relay real-time insights—safely, autonomously and at scale. These USVs use the energy of the weather - sun, wind, and waves, to act as persistent monitoring and communications platforms. They are embarking on an ambitious program of building and deploying multiple USVs for operations around Australia and beyond.

The Role

You'll be collaborating with a talented, multi-disciplined team to improve designs, test, and troubleshoot sophisticated mechatronics systems, responding to operational and production requirements to ensure continuous improvement.  Utilising your hands-on experience in building and repairing mechanical systems, you'll thrive in an unstructured, self-guided environment and make a tangible impact on operations. The Field Engineer will provide engineering support for the company's Darwin operations and maintenance team. You will be instrumental in providing expert level mechanical support to ensure their northern fleet remain on-water and fully operational.

Skills and experience

  • 3-5 years of experience across complicated systems
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting complex mechanical equipment, including the use of test equipment for fault finding
  • Strong understanding of and experience in improving the reliability of systems currently in operation
  • Ability to read schematics to understand overall system architecture and support deep-level fault finding
  • Hands-on experience building and/or repairing mechanical systems
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Australian citizenship and the ability to obtain an NV1 security clearance
  • Desirable skills include marine or defence experience, proficiency in SolidWorks within low-power solar and/or marine electro-mechanical systems.
N.B. You must be an Australian citizen with the ability to obtain an NV1 security clearance to be eligible for this role.
