The Opportunity:

KBR is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to play a key role in the delivery of platform integration and modernisation projects within the Defence environment. This opportunity places you at the centre of complex LC4 systems integration activities across multiple Australian Army platforms, working within a dynamic, integration‑focused environment.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with project leadership, engineering teams, industry partners and Defence stakeholders to ensure that engineering, procurement, contracting and technical outcomes are delivered effectively and in line with governance and certification requirements. You will contribute engineering expertise across the full lifecycle of design, integration, testing and certification, supporting both technical and commercial dimensions of project delivery.

You will be responsible for designing, developing and delivering LC4 systems integration solutions, while also auditing existing platform configurations and applying sound engineering and platform design standards. This includes supporting mandated system reviews such as Preliminary Design Review (PDR) and Detailed Design Review (DDR) and participating in Systems Safety Reviews and Working Groups to support platform Certification for Use.

In addition, you will provide engineering advice throughout implementation, rollout and testing phases to ensure that products conform to approved design specifications. Your work will help ensure that integrated systems meet required performance, safety and compliance standards across the procurement and contract management lifecycle.

This role can be based in either Melbourne or Brisbane.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Design structural components (shelving, mounts, brackets) to support LC4 systems integration on Army platforms.
  • Produce CAD drawings to design‑approval standard for prototype manufacture.
  • Review and quality‑assess prototype hardware, including installation on trial vehicles.
  • Work autonomously to deliver allocated technical and project objectives.
  • Provide specialist engineering advice, influencing internal teams, suppliers and Defence stakeholders.
  • Conduct complex engineering activities, including hazard analysis, V&V planning, and technical reporting.
  • Prepare design documentation, requirements inputs, and engineering reports.
  • Support contract documentation, planning and Defence certification processes (PDR, DDR, system safety reviews).

  What You’ll Bring:

  •  Degree‑qualified Mechanical Engineer with ~7+ years’ relevant industry experience.
  • Baseline security clearance, with ability to upgrade to NV1.
  • Defence experience and LC4 or platform integration exposure (highly desirable).
  •  Strong mechanical design background, including CAD and prototype evaluation.
  • Experience improving engineering processes and applying continuous improvement.
  • Understanding of US Export Controls (TAA, retransfer) desirable.

Due to the nature of Defence work, applicants must be Australian citizens and hold an active NV1 security clearance.
