Description

We have a number of exciting full time opportunities throughout our Caboolture operations for Log Yard Loader operators. We are after applicants that want to join a national business, be motivated to make a difference and be provided an opportunity to grow a career with AKD.

Reporting to the Log Yard Supervisor, the fundamental purpose of the position is to ensure the Greenmill is stocked with logs at all times to achieve production goals and to ensure the log yard is run efficiently and kept clean and organised.

Shifts are available with our attractive roster allowing you to work full-time hours across a 4-day week roster between Monday & Friday on the shift that suits your lifestyle.  You will be provided a non-work day each week as part of the 4 day roster spread over 5 days Monday to Friday.

AKD Sawmill is located in the heart of Caboolture, Qld. 

Day shift hours

Start at 5:30am and finish at 3:30pm (working a 9.5 hour shift)

Afternoon shift hours

Starts at 4:00pm and finish at 2:00am (working a 9.5 hour shift)

These positions will suit a motivated applicant that is keen to grow within a large organisation and enjoys working in a high performing team.

Responsibilities

Safety:

  • Safety compliance including use of JSA’s, SOP’s, LOTO:
  • Report all incidents and near misses.
  • Showing initiative e.g. making a work area safe and tidy, informing supervisor of hazards, identifying improved work methods, learning about how plant is operated etc
  • Involved in developing improved safe work methods
  • Genuine commitment to safety

Production Duties:

  • Liaise with Forestry regarding deliveries, segregation, rejects, weighbridge, etc.
  • Assist Log Yard employees where necessary
  • Load bark on logs on to debarker deck from trailer
  • Unload bark off logs and stack on the skids in the yard
  • Load bark of logs by request to the green mill
  • Bucket loader duties
  • Identify and report machines that are not functioning correctly
  • Work in partnership with the other team members to achieve the best possible performance across the shifts

General Duties:

  • Perform general housekeeping/cleaning duties and tasks
  • Identify and reduce wastes
  • Report any quality issues or concerns
  • Take part in continuous improvement training and initiates
  • Support AKD continually evolving culture
  • Housekeeping standards: 100% working in a clean and tidy work environment, and always cleaning up work area at completion of job
  • Planning skills: 100% plans each work activity considering time, skills & materials, safety preventive measures required before work proceeds, or when breakdowns / blockages occur
  • Care shown to tools and plant: demonstration of care, cleaning, storing and maintenance of tools and plant
  • Reports use of sub-standard materials and consumables:

Team work and communication

  • Lead/contribute in all team communications such as toolbox sessions and crew meetings
  • Contribute to process improvement sessions by raising opportunities to improve and supporting fellow team members in a positive manner
  • Always maintain an ethical and honest outlook, conducting yourself in a manner supportive of representing the company and the maintenance department

 

The successful applicant will: 

  • Promote a harm free, physiologically safe, care-oriented workplace.
  • Deliver production targets with minimal down time.
  • Demonstrate consistent compliance to quality and safety standards.
  • Adherence to safety both legislative and company policies and procedures and active engagement in hazard reporting.

Role requirements: 

  • Must hold loader licence.
  • Ability to work autonomously, and as an integral part of a team
  • Work permanent Shift Work with limited supervision
