Lead Carpenter

Sick of rain days, long drives and waiting on other trades? This is carpentry done properly, indoors, in one location, with the same crew every day.

We're an established Perth builder making modular homes in a factory, with around 10 homes a month heading out to sites across WA. We're after a Lead Carpenter who can take a home from the floor frame to the final fix and lead a small crew while doing it.

The job

You'll run a crew of 3 to 4 (a mix of qualified chippies, apprentices and labourers) and build each home start to finish:

• Floors, wall frames and roofs, set out square, level and plumb to the drawings.
• Windows, doors, cladding, flashings and weatherproofing.
• Linings, cornice, skirting, architraves, doors, hardware and cabinetry.
• Getting the home braced, protected and ready to go on the truck.

Along the way you'll bring the sparky and plumber in at the right time, check your work at each stage before moving on, and keep your bay clean, organised and safe. At the start of each day you'll brief your crew, and at the end you'll give your supervisor a quick update on where things are at.

You're the last one to touch the home before it leaves, so what you sign off is what the customer gets.

What you need

• Cert III in Carpentry and at least 5 years' experience post-trade in residential building.
• A White Card.
• The know-how to take a house from floor to final fix. Not just framing, not just fit-out.
• At least 2 years running a small crew, including apprentices.
• The ability to read plans and pick up when the build doesn't match them.
• Full Australian work rights.

Handy to have: modular or prefab experience, steel framing, a forklift, EWP or working-at-heights ticket, or experience training apprentices.
