The Role

ALS is seeking energetic people to join our metallurgical services business based in Balcatta, Perth, WA. This is a physically demanding sample preparation role. You will undertake manual sample preparation and routine laboratory support tasks; the role is rostered as a full-time casual across the day or afternoon shifts. Reporting to the Area Supervisor, you will perform physical sample‑handling duties to meet client requirements.

These are not fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) mine‑site positions.  

All training will be provided.

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Have a hands‑on labouring background.

  • Demonstrate practical mechanical aptitude; advanced technical qualifications are not required.

  • Can perform repetitive, physical tasks safely and consistently.

The day to day

  • Support the Area Supervisor and Team Leaders by performing bench sample preparation tasks such as cutting, crushing, grinding and splitting samples under supervision.
  • Operate basic sample preparation equipment (saws, crushers, mills) safely and as instructed.
  • Follow Health, Safety and Environmental procedures when handling samples and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate record keeping; labelling, logging and preparing control samples for processing.
  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and housekeeping in the work area.
  • Perform repetitive, physical tasks consistently and safely to meet client requirements.

  • Ability to undertake Shift work as required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good physical fitness with the ability to perform manual handling tasks.
  • Good literacy, numeracy, and computer skills.
