Installer / Trade Assistant โ Commercial & Industrial
SSO Handling & StorageSSO Handling & Storage is looking for a practical, reliable person to join our installation team in Queanbeyan.
We are a family-owned business that has been operating since 1986, working across commercial, industrial and warehouse environments throughout the ACT, NSW and regional areas.
This is a varied, hands-on role. Our work includes warehouse storage systems, commercial fit-outs, furniture and FF&E installation, specialist equipment, custom fabrication, repairs, relocations and project work.
Pallet racking and storage systems make up a significant part of what we do, but this is not a single-product installation role. We are looking for someone who enjoys practical work, can use tools confidently and wants to develop a broad range of installation skills.
What you could be doing:
- Installing pallet racking, shelving, longspan and other storage systems
- Commercial furniture and FF&E installation
- Installing industrial and specialist storage equipment
- Measuring, marking out and preparing installation areas
- Drilling concrete and installing mechanical anchors
- Reading layouts, drawings and installation instructions
- Loading, delivering and unloading materials and equipment
- Preparing jobs and equipment in our Queanbeyan workshop
- Assisting with custom fabrication, workbenches, barriers and other project-specific solutions
- Equipment relocations, repairs and compliance rectification work
- Assisting with mezzanine, handrail and commercial fit-out projects
- Taking QA photographs and completing basic site documentation
- Working directly with customers and other contractors
- Occasional regional travel and overnight work

You do not need previous racking experience.
We are interested in people from backgrounds such as construction, commercial fit-out, shopfitting, furniture or cabinet installation, mechanical installation, maintenance, fabrication, warehousing, trade-assistant work or similar practical roles.
More important than your exact background is whether you can work safely, learn quickly and take pride in doing a job properly.
You should be:
- Comfortable using hand and power tools
- Able to measure accurately and follow instructions
- Practical and able to solve problems on site
- Physically capable of installation work
- Reliable and able to work as part of a small team
- Comfortable dealing professionally with customers
- Willing to learn different systems and types of work
- Able to work independently once trained
Essential requirements
- Current driverโs licence
- Australian working rights
- Construction White Card, or willingness to obtain one promptly
- Reliable transport to our Queanbeyan workshop when required
- Steel-cap safety footwear
Useful but not essential
- Forklift licence
- Working at Heights
- EWP licence
- Asbestos Awareness
- Silica Awareness
- MR or HR licence
- Previous construction, installation, fit-out or racking experience
We can arrange relevant training for the right person.
What we offer
- Full-time permanent employment
- $35 to $42 per hour + super, depending on experience and demonstrated capability
- Varied work rather than doing the same job every day
- Training across multiple installation and storage systems
- Opportunities to gain additional licences and qualifications
- Potential progression into senior installation, project, technical or compliance roles
- A small team where your contribution is visible and matters
- Access to a properly equipped workshop, vehicles and specialist tools
We do not expect a new employee to know everything from day one.
We do expect people to ask questions, work safely, learn from experience and take responsibility for the quality of their work.
If you are practical, dependable and looking for a role where you can build a broad range of skills, we would like to hear from you.
Apply with your CV and, if possible, include a short note telling us about the most hands-on job or project you have worked on.
