As part of our continued growth, Av-Comm is seeking a Field Services Technician / Rigger to join our Field Services Team to enhance our on-site
capability.
Role Purpose:
The Av-Comm Field Services Technician / Rigger plays a key role in supporting the successful delivery of complex satellite communications (SATCOM) projects. The role will support the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of satellite ground station infrastructure for defence, government, and commercial customers. This hands-on role involves working on antenna systems, mechanical assemblies, and field-based projects throughout Australia and as well as international sites, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform mechanical installation, assembly, and alignment of satellite antenna systems and associated ground infrastructure.
- Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on antenna systems, mounts, pedestals, and mechanical assemblies.
- Support site establishment activities, including equipment delivery, inspection, and commissioning.
- Diagnose and rectify mechanical faults in field-deployed equipment.
- Complete field service reports and safety documentation.
- Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Participate in remote deployments and project-based travel as required.
- Support manufacturing, assembly, and factory acceptance testing activities when not deployed in the field.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Experience installing, maintaining, or commissioning mechanical equipment in defence, telecommunications, mining, infrastructure, or industrial environments.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, assembly instructions, and technical documentation.
- Experience using mechanical hand tools, power tools, lifting equipment, and precision alignment equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding capabilities.
- Ability to obtain and maintain security clearances as required.
Desirable Skills
- Experience building/working with satellite communications or antenna systems.
- Working at Heights, EWP, Forklift, Dogging/Rigging/Crane certifications/experience.
- Valid Australian driver’s licence.
