Construction Management

We’re looking our next Community Safety Officer to join the Port Adelaide Enfield Council.

This is more than a regulatory role. It's an opportunity to build positive relationships, influence behaviour, and make a genuine contribution to the quality of life of our community.

This is a rewarding opportunity to combine education, engagement and enforcement to achieve positive outcomes that enhance the liveability of one of South Australia's most vibrant and diverse communities.

This is a Full time Permanent role.

About Us

At the City of Port Adelaide Enfield (PAE), we’re building a welcoming, liveable city, made by people.

Our focus is on community, our economy, environmental sustainability and building high-quality places for people to enjoy. We’re on an ambitious trajectory, but our organisation is up for the challenge.

At PAE, we’re involved in all sorts of things - major construction through to environmental management, organising events, social infrastructure planning, and library services. We are proud of offering a wide range of accessible services and programs to our community.

You don’t need experience in local government for this role - we’re looking for transferrable skills and a great attitude.

Now’s a great time to be part of PAE.

About the Role

As a Community Safety Officer, you'll be out where it matters most, working directly with residents, businesses and visitors to help create a safer, cleaner and more connected city. No two days are the same. One day you might be investigating a community complaint, the next you're educating residents on responsible pet ownership, assisting with parking compliance, or helping resolve a neighbourhood issue before it escalates.

In this dynamic and rewarding position, you'll be responsible for:

  • Promoting community safety through education, engagement and enforcement
  • Investigating a broad range of community safety and regulatory matters
  • Responding to customer requests and resolving issues with professionalism and empathy
  • Supporting responsible pet ownership and enforcing animal management legislation
  • Managing matters relating to parking compliance, nuisance complaints, littering and abandoned vehicles
  • Conducting investigations, collecting evidence and preparing reports
  • Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve positive community outcomes
  • Representing Council professionally while exercising sound judgement and decision-making

About You

You're confident, resilient and enjoy working with people from all walks of life. You can remain calm under pressure, have a strong sense of fairness and know how to navigate challenging situations with professionalism and respect.

You'll bring:

  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills
  • The ability to build rapport and manage difficult conversations
  • Strong investigative and problem-solving abilities
  • Sound judgement and the confidence to make decisions
  • A proactive and solutions-focused approach
  • Ability to confidently and safely handle dogs in a range of environments
  • Experience in compliance, investigations, community safety, customer service or a related field will be highly regarded
  • Ability to work a rotating 7-day roster, including shifts of 7.00am-3.30pm, 8.30am-5.00pm and 10.30am-7.00pm, and flexibility to work across Council service areas as required
