Civil Engineer

Cloncurry Shire Council is seeking a qualified and motivated Civil Engineer to join our Infrastructure & Environment team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified engineer who is passionate about infrastructure delivery, asset management and continuous improvement within a local government environment.

About the Role

Reporting to the Manager Infrastructure, the Engineer – Civil plays a key role in the development, delivery and continuous improvement of Council’s infrastructure, with a particular focus on water, wastewater and road assets across Cloncurry, Dajarra and Kajabbi.

This position works collaboratively with the Asset Engineer and internal stakeholders to ensure sound asset management practices, accurate asset registers, long-term planning and compliance with legislative and audit requirements.

The role contributes to:

• Asset Management Plans and renewal programs
• Infrastructure condition assessments and defect registers
• Capital works planning and reporting.
• Budget prioritisation and long-term financial planning
• Maintenance strategies and asset optimisation
• Preparation of estimates and technical reporting

You will liaise with internal departments, contractors, consultants, and regulators to deliver high-quality infrastructure outcomes that support the community.

About You

We are seeking a proactive and technically capable professional who has:

• Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience will be considered.
• Strong understanding of engineering practices within a local government environment
• Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining Asset Management Plans
• Sound knowledge of asset management principles and GIS database management
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare reports and submissions.
• Commitment to continuous improvement and professional development

Mandatory requirements include:

• A Degree in Civil Engineering (suitable for membership with Engineers Australia)
• Current C Class Driver’s Licence
• Construction White Card/30215
• Blue Card

Desirable Qualifications:

• Project Management certification will be highly regarded.
