State Operations Manager - QLD

About the role

Reporting to the State Manager, the State Operations Manager (QLD) is responsible for maximising returns by recommending and executing an operations strategy aligned with the broader business plan. The role focuses on the safe, efficient, and sustainable management of operations and equipment to support long‑term growth.

This position provides clear operational leadership to Managers and Supervisors, enabling them to deliver safe, reliable, and cost effective operations. A strong emphasis is placed on continuous improvement in areas of safety and operational capacity, and on developing and coaching managers and supervisors to be effective self-sufficient leaders.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Manage and co-ordinate state operations in line with documented safe operating procedures
• Identify, implement and review opportunities within the business to enhance safety, operational efficiencies and continuous improvement
• Business reporting and commercial analysis of performance against business targets
• Develop reporting managers and supervisors capability across safety, performance, maintenance and continuous improvement
• Audit maintenance schedules to ensure both mobile and fixed plant are effective and meet operational requirements
• Participate in National Recycling Operations forums and calls to develop measurable best practice targets for the business
• Review training requirements and support Managers and Supervisors in ensuring their employees are trained and competent to carry out assigned tasks/responsibilities safely and effectively
• Manage the performance of direct reports through coaching, team building and conducting effective performance reviews; lead and monitor formal communications with teams
• Ensure safety is a key priority and driven through the business including plans, systems and behaviours

We are seeking a safety focused leader with strong influencing & communication skills and a passion for continuous improvement.

The foundations required to be successful in this role include:

• Qualifications in business and/or operations management or engineering
• Extensive experience in leading safety within a structured safety management system in a similar environment/industry
• Experience within heavy manufacturing or mining environments preferred
• Understanding of legislative OHS, Quality, Environmental, ACCC, RTA and GST regulations
• Previous experience in contract management and negotiations
• Exceptional relationship management skills and the capability to influence peers, managers and direct reports
• Intermediate level computer skills, particularly in Outlook, Excel and Word
