Safety at Harris Farm is a commitment to the 3,600 people who show up for our customers every day. As Safety Officer, you'll build a genuine safety-first culture across our 30+ stores, our warehouse, and our construction sites — partnering with leaders at every level to make safety part of how we lead, not an afterthought.
This is a hands-on, high-impact role. You'll be on the floor, solving real problems, coaching managers, investigating incidents, and driving continuous improvement across a growing national network. If you get energy from being where the work actually happens, you'll love it here.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Safety Culture & Training
• Support delivery of HFM's safety strategic plan, ensuring safety is woven into how we work — not bolted on
• Coach and train managers and supervisors to lead by example and meet their safety obligations
• Ensure 100% completion of site safety inductions for all employees and contractors before they step on site
• Develop and deliver engaging safety training that builds real knowledge, not just ticked boxes
• Champion a speak-up culture where hazards are reported early and every near miss is treated as a learning opportunity
Incident & Risk Management
• Investigate incidents, hazards and near misses — identifying root causes and implementing preventative measures that stick
• Manage reporting processes and compliance via Done Safe, ensuring timely and accurate data capture
• Liaise with SafeWork NSW and other regulatory bodies when required, maintaining HFM's compliance standing
• Conduct regular site risk assessments and implement corrective actions within agreed timeframes
• Ensure all new equipment is risk assessed, SOPs are developed, and staff are trained before go-live
Contractor & Compliance Management
• Ensure 100% of contractors are approved, inducted and compliant before commencing work on HFM sites
• Conduct regular contractor audits and maintain an approved consultant/contractor schedule
• Monitor compliance with the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) and Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations
• Oversee construction site safety — risk registers, Safety Management Plans, security and contractor controls
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
• Provide health & safety reports, risk committee KPIs and board-level updates that tell the story behind the numbers
• Monitor the preventative maintenance program and escalate non-compliance for high-risk items
• Identify and recommend innovative safety solutions that improve outcomes, not just processes
• Track continuous improvement activities and ensure they translate into measurable results
ABOUT YOU
We're looking for someone who is genuinely energised by safety — who sees compliance as the floor, not the ceiling, and who builds trust on the floor before they ask anyone to change how they work. Beyond that, we're looking for:
Qualifications & Experience
• Diploma or Advanced Diploma of Work Health & Safety (BSB51315 or BSB60615) — or equivalent
• Proven experience as a Safety Officer in retail, warehouse, logistics or manufacturing
• Experience with Done Safe or equivalent safety management platforms
• Track record investigating incidents using root cause analysis methodologies
• Valid driver's licence — regular travel between stores, warehouse and construction sites is part of the role
• Construction safety experience and Lead Auditor or ICAM qualification — a strong advantage
Skills
• Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, hazardous materials and risk assessment frameworks
• Confident writer — reports, policies, SOPs, safety communications
• Ability to train, coach and influence leaders without formal authority
• Chain of Responsibility (CoR) and HVNL knowledge
• Excellent time management — comfortable juggling competing priorities across multiple sites
