Qualified Welder / Fabricator - Automotive Sheet Metal

About the Role
Chelgrave Contracting is seeking an experienced, trade-qualified Welder / Fabricator for an estimated 4-month casual assignment with a well-established client in the automotive sector. This is hands-on sheet metal work in a busy workshop environment, fabricating and welding mild steel components down to 3mm gauge material.

Key Responsibilities

• Fabrication and welding of mild steel sheet metal components (down to 3mm)
• Reading and interpreting technical drawings and job specifications
• Cutting, folding, forming, and assembly of sheet metal parts
• Measuring, marking out, and fit-up with tight tolerances
• Grinding and finishing work to automotive quality standards
• Maintaining a safe, clean, and organised work area

• Trade qualification (Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade or equivalent)
• Proven experience welding mild steel, particularly thin-gauge sheet metal, where heat control and distortion management are critical
• Confident MIG welder; TIG experience highly regarded
• Experience in automotive fabrication or a similar precision environment preferred
• Ability to read and work from engineering drawings
• Strong attention to detail and pride in the quality of your work
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team
• Own basic hand tools and PPE
• Valid driver's licence and reliable transport

• $64.02 per hour + super – excellent casual rate
• $30 per day travel allowance
• Estimated 4-month assignment with a reputable automotive client
• Day shift, Monday to Friday
