Due to business growth, an opportunity has arisen for a Leading Hand to join our Infrastructure Services business based from our Warrnambool depot. With demonstrated road construction or asphalting experience highly regarded, you will support the laying crew Foreman to lead an asphalt laying team, ensuring that there is a strong commitment to workplace safety, quality, punctuality, reliability and respect for others.
This role is an integral part of a high performing asphalt laying team, and will assist coordinating work tasks, operating plant and equipment, supervising execution of roles and delivering high quality asphalt pavements. Working throughout the Southwestern region of Victoria, our team can travel within 3 hours of Warrnambool so there will be a requirement to work weekends, nights and away from home at times. We're looking for a hardworking ethos, reliability and honest and an individual with previous road construction experience.
Responsibilities will include:
- Ensure job site is safe for Fulton Hogan Employees, Sub–Contractors and the public.
- Encourages crew to contribute to achieving daily productivities in a safe manner.
- Proactively problem solve day to day issues on site
- Give feedback to foreman and crew on individual performance, quality and timeliness or work
- Identify any latent conditions that may impact quality of work and notify foreman
- Operate plant and equipment safely, equipment may include: skid-steer, steel or wheeled roller, asphalt paving machine, heavy vehicles.
- Perform manual labour tasks as required including, but not limited to, shovelling, raking etc.
- Identify and discuss any the following issues with the Foreman: safety, quality or environmental issues, traffic control, onsite congestion and vehicle movement
- Assist the foreman in managing the delivery of the job including resource allocation, anticipate next steps, spread additives, change machinery attachments, clean down gear etc.
How you will connect to the role:
- Previous asphalt experience highly regarded
- Road construction experience preferred
- Construction Induction card.
- An interest in working outdoors and in all weather conditions
- Previous experience in managing a team
- Forward thinking, ability to plan & coordinate works considering different factors (weather, team availability etc)
