Description

JOB OVERVIEW: The Landscaper / Machinery Operator is responsible for delivering landscape construction and maintenance works safely, efficiently, and to a high-quality standard. The role is primarily hands-on and involves operating plant and equipment, performing manual labour tasks, and supporting day-to-day site activities. The position is also open to candidates who hold a current MR licence and are capable of driving small tipper or body trucks to assist with transporting or collecting materials as required for site operations.
On occasions, the role will be required to take a leading hand position, assisting with coordination of small crews, subcontractors, and daily site activities in line with project programs and budgets. The position also supports the identification of variations and additional landscaping works.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION: 


•    Perform landscape construction, maintenance, and repair works, including manual labour tasks.
•    Operate plant and machinery safely and competently in accordance with licences and training held.
•    Assist with daily site setup, material handling, loading/unloading, and housekeeping.
•    On occasion, act as a leading hand by coordinating daily tasks for a small team and subcontractors.
•    Support delivery of works in line with project schedules, budgets, and quality requirements.

•    Assist in identifying health, safety, and environmental risks and implementing corrective actions.
•    Ensure works are completed in accordance with company procedures and contract requirements.
 



Skills And Experiences

SELECTION CRITERIA:

ESSENTIALS:

  •     Relevant plant and machinery operation tickets and licences.
  •     Experience undertaking manual labour in landscaping, construction, or civil environments.
  •     Ability to work under pressure and meet daily work targets and deadlines.
  •     Good communication skills (verbal and written).
  •     Strong organisational skills, initiative, and work ethic.
  •     Attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
  •    Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  •     Ability to lead or direct a small crew when required.
  •    Basic conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
  •     Ability to follow instructions, procedures, and safe work practices.
  •     Current Northern Territory Driver’s Licence.


DESIRABLE:

  •   Experience in hard landscaping and civil works, including:
  •    Base preparation
  •    Paving and concreting
  •    Stonework
  •    Installation of play equipment and outdoor furniture
  •    Drainage works
  •    Experience in soft landscaping, including:
  •    Planting trees and shrubs
  •    Turf installation
  •     Soil and mulch spreading
  •    Irrigation installation and repairs
