Job Description

An exciting opportunity is available for a Field Technician / Chemist to join the Advanced Analytical Services team, supporting clients across environmental, chemical and petrochemical industries.

This role combines hands-on field sampling with laboratory analysis, offering exposure to diverse client sites and projects across NSW and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake practical field work, including sample collection and on-site testing.
  • Perform analytical work at client sites, including operation of client instruments and chemical analysis in line with procedures.
  • Conduct occupational health and hygiene monitoring, site inspections and testing.
  • Prepare reagents, perform laboratory testing, analyse samples and compile reports.
  • Maintain field and laboratory equipment, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
  • Register samples, document results and complete required reporting.
  • Liaise with clients before, during and after site visits to coordinate access and understand job requirements.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure safe and compliant sampling and testing activities.
  • Comply with all client safety, environmental and housekeeping requirements while on site.

Travel Requirements

  • Travel within Sydney several times per week.
  • Intrastate/interstate travel several times per month.
  • Occasional overseas travel within the APAC region may be required.
  • Role primarily based at the Alexandria laboratory, with major client sites in Botany, NSW.

Qualifications

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant scientific discipline and/or experience in environmental, chemical or petrochemical industries.
  • Experience conducting practical field sampling and site-based testing.
  • Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel and work additional hours when required.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems and ISO 17025 / NATA accreditation.
  • Experience in occupational hygiene monitoring is desirable.
  • Experience with GC-MS, HPLC, UV-Vis, IR, AAS or ICP is advantageous.
