CNC Machinist

Position Title: CNC Machinist
Location: Port Kembla, NSW, Australia
Employment Type: Full-time
Reports to: Production Manager

Position Overview:

The CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC machines to produce precision components according to technical specifications. This role involves interpreting technical drawings and ensuring high-quality output while adhering to safety and efficiency standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Machine Setup and Operation:

    • Set up CNC machines, including lathes, mills, and routers, according to production specifications.
    • Operate CNC machines to produce high-quality parts within specified tolerances.
  • Quality Control:

    • Conduct regular inspections of parts using measuring tools (calipers, micrometers) to ensure adherence to specifications.
    • Identify and troubleshoot any issues with machine performance or product quality.
  • Programming:

    • Read and interpret technical drawings and CAD files to create CNC programs.
    • Make adjustments to programs as necessary to improve efficiency and product quality.
    • FANUC interface
  • Maintenance:

    • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of CNC machines to ensure optimal performance.
    • Report any mechanical issues to maintenance personnel promptly.
  • Documentation:

    • Maintain accurate records of production outputs, quality checks, and machine maintenance.
    • Ensure compliance with workplace safety and environmental regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Trade qualification in machining or relevant field (Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade preferred).
  • Proven experience operating CNC machines in a heavy industry manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and CAD files.

Work Environment:

The role typically involves working in a manufacturing workshop environment. The machinist may be required to work shifts, including evenings and weekends, depending on production needs.
