About the Sexual Assault & Family Violence Centre

We are a client-centred organisation, supporting the community throughout Barwon, Wimmera, and the South West regions, offering a range of specialist support services to people impacted by sexual and family violence, encompassing 24 hour crisis care, specialist response services, early intervention programs, Victims Assistance Program, Community Legal Services, trauma recovery programs, professional training and primary prevention initiatives.

About The Role

The Work Health and Safety Officer supports the organisation to maintain a safe and compliant workplace by coordinating and implementing day-to-day health and safety activities. This role works collaboratively with leaders and staff to identify and manage workplace risks, promote safe work practices, and support ensuring compliance with relevant Work Health and Safety legislation, policies, and procedures. The position contributes to a positive safety culture through practical guidance, monitoring, and continuous improvement of WHS systems and processes.

Key Selection Criteria

Essential Qualifications and Experience

Your application must address the following:

  • Minimum Certificate IV in Workplace Health and Safety
  • Demonstrated knowledge of WHS legislation, principles, practices and regulatory requirements
  • Min 2 years’ experience in Work Health and Safety position

Essential Skills and Knowledge

  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to interpret safety legislation, codes of practice, safety regulations and ISO standards.
  • Excellent communication skills written and verbal
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including use of programs such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams and previous experience in the use of HRIS system or database.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills including high level attention to detail, ability to multi-task, accuracy and prioritisation.
  • Proven ability to work in a changing environment autonomously and within a team environment. Alongside the ability to interact proactively with management and staff at all levels of the organisation.
  • Ability to ensure and maintain strict confidentiality of all employee or sensitive information gained or exposed to in fulfilling job duties.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing OHS workplace support and advice based on legislation and code of practice.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting hazard identification, risk assessment and safety audits
  • Ability to manage priorities whilst demonstrating a high level of independence in solving problems and using judgement.
  • Demonstrated project management skills including a proven track record of continuous improvement and demonstrated examples of development and implementing WHS and Wellbeing initiatives.
  • Proven ability and experience in contributing to a positive safety culture.
  • Strong relationship building, collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Innovative approach to systems and process improvements
  • Advanced writing ability to produce reports and recommendations relating to WHS
  • Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills in alignment with values.
  • A flexible approach and the ability to be proactive and productive where there is ambiguity.
  • Ability to adhere to the organisations policies and procedures.

Period of Appointment

This position is ongoing depending on funding.

Hours of work

The position is full time (minimum 38 hours per week)

Salary and Conditions

Annual salary is Business Services, Administration and Support Services level 3 plus superannuation (pro rata for part time).

Industrial Instrument: The Sexual Assault & Family Violence Centre Enterprise Agreement 2023.

Salary Packaging: Provided via Maxxia. PBI status with other expenses available to package above this cap. The Sexual Assault & Family Violence Centre is a Public Benevolent Institution.

Superannuation: The employer will also make superannuation payments on your behalf in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee (Administration) Act 1992.

Probationary Period – 6 months with a review conducted during this time.
