Technical Support Officer, Civil and Structural Engineering

• Full-time, Ongoing position at HEW Level 5.
• Penrith campus with flexible working arrangements.
• Salary: $84,096 – $95,103 per annum, plus 17% Super and Leave Loading.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Technical Support Officer to assist providing technical support for teaching and research activities from our Penrith campus! 
 
This is a hands-on role where you will set up and pack down laboratory and fieldwork activities, directly supporting high-quality teaching and research by ensuring equipment and materials are prepared and ready for use. You'll also provide technical assistance to academic staff and students; demonstrating safe and effective usage of specialised equipment. 

Our ideal candidate will be self-sufficient but team-oriented and who understands the nuanced understanding required for effective teaching and research support.

What Success Looks Like:

• Preparing practical teaching spaces including materials and equipment for undergraduate practicals for Civil & Structural Engineering along with other Engineering disciplines. 
• Provide technical support on commercial research projects. 
• Assist researchers and HDR students particularly in non-teaching periods.  
• Maintaining, operating and calibrating complex Civil Engineering equipment. 
• Ensuring specialises waste is disposed of or recycled in accordance with university and regulatory requirements. 
• Develop Standard Operating Procedures for relevant equipment and processes - ensuring that they are up to date and the standard maintained. 
• Actively contribute to identifying and recommending areas of improvement through Continuous Improvement or Kaizen programs.

About You

• Degree in Construction, Civil or Structural Engineering and relevant experience contributing to technical support of research (not as an academic) 
• Team first attitude with an ability to work independently 
• Understanding of materials testing, surveying and/or laboratory work 
• Proactive problem solving with an emphasis on continuous improvement
