The Opportunity
We are seeking a Technical Support Officer to assist providing technical support for teaching and research activities from our Penrith campus!
This is a hands-on role where you will set up and pack down laboratory and fieldwork activities, directly supporting high-quality teaching and research by ensuring equipment and materials are prepared and ready for use. You'll also provide technical assistance to academic staff and students; demonstrating safe and effective usage of specialised equipment.
Our ideal candidate will be self-sufficient but team-oriented and who understands the nuanced understanding required for effective teaching and research support.
What Success Looks Like:
- Preparing practical teaching spaces including materials and equipment for undergraduate practicals for Civil & Structural Engineering along with other Engineering disciplines.
- Provide technical support on commercial research projects.
- Assist researchers and HDR students particularly in non-teaching periods.
- Maintaining, operating and calibrating complex Civil Engineering equipment.
- Ensuring specialises waste is disposed of or recycled in accordance with university and regulatory requirements.
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures for relevant equipment and processes - ensuring that they are up to date and the standard maintained.
- Actively contribute to identifying and recommending areas of improvement through Continuous Improvement or Kaizen programs.

About You
- Degree in Construction, Civil or Structural Engineering and relevant experience contributing to technical support of research (not as an academic)
- Team first attitude with an ability to work independently
- Understanding of materials testing, surveying and/or laboratory work
- Proactive problem solving with an emphasis on continuous improvement
