About the Role

Brisbane Girls Grammar School is seeking applications for a Student Safety Officer to support the safe, orderly, and efficient movement of students during afternoon transition periods, in particular for years 5 and 6 students.

The Student Safety Officer plays a critical role in coordinating student movement between co-curricular activities, after-school care, and designated parent pick-up zones. The role supports the School’s duty of care by ensuring appropriate supervision, minimising congestion, and managing safety risks during peak activity times.

As the Student Safety Officer, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing and actively managing student movement between co-curricular activities, after-school supervision, and parent pick-up zones
  • Monitoring designated pick-up and waiting areas to ensure safe, orderly, and respectful conduct
  • Providing a consistent, visible, and approachable presence at the front of the School, promoting safety and wellbeing
  • Identifying potential safety risks (e.g. congestion, traffic flow, unsupervised students, behavioural concerns) and taking appropriate action
  • Supporting clear communication between staff supervising co-curricular programs, after-school supervision, and families (where required)
  • Maintaining accurate records of incidents and safety-related activities
  • Promoting a positive, respectful, and inclusive school environment through calm, respectful, and confident interactions with students and families.

This role is ideally suited to candidates available from 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm, Monday to Friday during term time, aligning with peak student transition and pick-up periods.


About You

You are responsible, observant, and approachable, with a strong commitment to student safety. You bring: 

  • Strong situational awareness and sound judgement in dynamic environments
  • Ability to confidently manage groups of students in outdoor and high-traffic settings
  • Professional communication skills when engaging with parents and staff
  • Calm, measured responses to incidents or conflict
  • Understanding of child safeguarding and student wellbeing principles
  • Professional presentation and conduct that reflects the values of the School
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a Positive Working with Children Check (Blue Card).
