The Project

The M80 Ring Road Alliance (comprising ACCIONA, MACA, and AECOM) has been selected to design and construct the M80 Ring Road Completion.

The project will deliver a major upgrade of the M80 Ring Road between the M80–Plenty Road interchange and the North East Link tunnel entrance at Watsonia, providing a seamless connection to North East Link. Works include the construction of 14 kilometres of new lanes, bulk earthworks, retaining walls, bridge structures, rail interface works, intelligent transport systems, urban design and landscaping. This diverse and challenging project will be complete in 2028.

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Project Engineer – Civil to support the successful delivery of key packages on the M80 Ring Road Completion. This role blends strong on-site leadership with planning, cost control, and commercial capability to drive predictable outcomes across time, cost, quality and safety.

Key accountabilities

  • Lead and manage a multi-disciplinary site team (engineers, supervisors, subcontractors) to drive performance, accountability and wellbeing.
  • Own short-term planning by reviewing the 2WWP and ensuring alignment to the 6WLAP and overall project program.
  • Develop, maintain and report the 6WLAP from the P6 programme, publishing the weekly planning cycle.
  • Maintain a 6–12 month strategic lookahead to identify discipline interfaces, stakeholder impacts and long-lead procurement constraints.
  • Complete monthly critical path reviews, identifying schedule risks/constraints and implementing mitigation actions.
  • Develop and control an achievable schedule through sequencing, resourcing and management of public interface impacts.
  • Manage cost control for delegated scope, ensuring time/cost/quality targets are met or exceeded.
  • Deliver end-of-month financial reporting, including forecasting final cost and revenue and updating forecasts as information changes.
  • Identify and manage risks and opportunities (R&O), monitor cost vs budget, and close out variances, trends and performance drivers.
  • Provide commercial/contracts support including progress claims, cost recoveries, variations/claims input, procurement/tender package review, and quality/compliance (NCRs, IFC/document control, handover readiness).

Required Skills and Competencies

  • 7+ Years experience delivering large civil infrastructure projects (major roads experience preferred) within a live construction environment.
  • Extensive experience leading, mentoring and managing teams
  • Strong technical knowledge of pavement construction, bulk earthworks and drainage, including coordination of utilities and interfaces.
  • Demonstrated planning and programming capability (P6 and lookahead planning), with strong sequencing and resourcing discipline.
  • Strong commercial acumen and contracts management experience, including cost control, forecasting, progress claims and variations.
