About the role
Due to an internal movement, we are seeking a highly motivated and technically strong Senior Geologist - Structural to support orebody knowledge, geological and structural modelling, for the study-phase project work at Oyu Tolgoi.
In this role, you will integrate drilling, mapping, structural geology, geotechnical concepts, and resource knowledge to develop high‑quality geological and structural models that support mine planning, design execution, and study deliverables. You’ll work closely with multidisciplinary teams - including principal geologists, exploration, mine geology, engineering, geotechnical, hydrology, and study groups - to ensure geological understanding is accurate, current, and effectively applied across the asset lifecycle.
This position is ideal for someone who thrives on solving complex geological problems, enjoys mentoring others, and is passionate about delivering insights that influence both operational and long-term value.
Based in Brisbane, you’ll report to the Principal Advisor – Geology and work across the following key responsibilities:
Interpret, develop, and maintain three dimensional major and minor structural models using geological modelling software, stereonet analysis and structural datasets.
Integrate structural interpretations into geotechnical, hydrogeological, and geometallurgical models to support operational and study-phase understanding.
Develop drilling plans for orebody knowledge, working closely with underground geology teams and principal geologists to prioritise activities.
Validate and perform quality checks on geological data.
Work with geologists, mine engineers, planners, geotechnical engineers, and hydrologists to ensure geological models are well communicated, aligned, and integrated into planning and design.
Support scoping, prefeasibility, and feasibility studies with risk assessments, geological interpretations, and technical input.
Prepare technical reports, concise summaries, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
About you
Bachelor’s degree in Geology.
5 years’ experience in a related field, mining or exploration.
Knowledge of 3D Geological modelling software.
Motivated, with strong communication skills, including ability to prepare technical reports and present to multidisciplinary teams and management.

Based in Brisbane, you will join our Geoscience Team who partner with our Oyu Tolgoi project. Located in the South Gobi, Oyu Tolgoi commenced shipment of product to customers in July 2013. Oyu Tolgoi is managed by Rio Tinto, which is investing global expertise and cutting-edge technology to help develop Mongolia’s mining industry and ensure Oyu Tolgoi is one of the world’s most advanced mines. For Oyu Tolgoi, nothing matters more than safety. The business operates under the principle that if a job cannot be done safely, it will not be done at all.
