Senior Farm Hand - Narrabri

• Full time, continuing position, located in Narrabri at the University of Sydney Plant Breeding Institute

• Work on a large‑scale, industry‑leading university farm supporting commercial grain production, research and cutting‑edge agricultural innovation

• Base Salary $90,155 - $95,259 + 17% superannuation 

About the opportunity

We are currently seeking a Senior Farm Hand to support the day‑to‑day farming operations at the University of Sydney’s Narrabri Farms, contributing to commercial grain production, research, digital agriculture and teaching activities.

Working closely with the Manager, Farm Operations and a small technical team, this role plays a key part in ensuring farm activities are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with best practice for the region.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• work closely with the Manager, Farm Operations and technical officers to support farming operations

• support the implementation of management plans for the Narrabri Farms

• operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment to support grain, research and teaching activities

• coordinate and liaise with contractors and consultants as required

• assist with field operations, demonstrations, field days and seminars

• support other farm operations and technical activities as required.

About you

• experience operating farm equipment including tractors, headers, cultivation and planting machinery

• practical experience working as part of a farming or agricultural operations team

• knowledge of safe handling and application of agricultural chemicals, with chemical accreditation preferred

• experience in welding or basic mechanical repairs (highly desirable)

• a current driver’s licence and willingness to obtain relevant licences and certifications as required

• an equivalent combination of training and experience, with a School Certificate or equivalent qualification

• a current Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain one prior to commencement.
