The Role
Principal Civil Engineer to join our Mining business in Newcastle and provide technical and people leadership across our NSW Civil capability.
This is a senior role suited to an experienced civil engineering leader who can lead significant bodies of work, drive major bids, and play a defining role in shaping and growing WSP’s Mining Civil team in NSW. You will work closely with project directors, discipline leads and clients to deliver high‑quality outcomes across a strong pipeline of mining and resources projects.
Provide technical and delivery leadership for civil engineering scopes across mining and resources projects
Lead major bids and proposals, including methodology development, resourcing, and technical governance
Act as Civil Discipline Lead for selected projects, overseeing quality, safety and commercial outcomes
Lead and grow the NSW Mining Civil Team, including mentoring, capability development and workforce planning
Coordinate multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated, constructible civil designs
Provide senior technical input across studies, concept development and detailed design phases
Build and maintain strong relationships with key mining clients and internal stakeholders
Contribute to business planning, market growth initiatives and strategic pursuits within the Mining sector
Uphold WSP’s engineering governance, safety and quality frameworks
About You
You are a Principal engineering professional with strong credibility in the mining sector, comfortable operating at both a strategic and hands‑on level. You enjoy leading people, developing teams, and front‑ending work with clients, while still remaining engaged in technical outcomes.
Degree qualified Civil Engineer
Extensive experience delivering civil engineering solutions within mining, resources or heavy industrial environments
Proven ability to lead major project scopes and/or large multidisciplinary bids
Strong experience across mining civil infrastructure such as earthworks, drainage, roads, bulk platforms and site development
Demonstrated people leadership experience, including mentoring and team development
Consulting background with sound commercial and client management capability
Strong understanding of Australian Standards, safety leadership and engineering governance
