About the role

AGL has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Fitter to join AGL’s Renewables division, supporting the maintenance and reliability of hydro‑electric power generation assets across North East Victoria.

Location: This position is based at AGL’s Hydro Head Office in Mount Beauty, located in the heart of the Kiewa Valley with the Alpine National Park and Falls Creek close by. Mount Beauty offers exceptional access to mountain biking, hiking, skiing/snowboarding and year‑round outdoor recreation, alongside quality education and health facilities.

What you will be doing

  • Undertake routine, preventative and breakdown maintenance on hydro‑electric plant, including turbines, valves, pumps and associated mechanical systems

  • Conduct inspections of plant and infrastructure, identifying defects, wear and performance issues

  • Assist with installation, upgrades and commissioning of mechanical plant and equipment

  • Maintain and troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems critical to hydro operations

  • Prepare work orders, maintenance records and reports using systems such as SAP

  • Complete hazard assessments (JSA/HRA) and follow Safe Access Rules to ensure all work is performed safely

  • Supervise contractors to ensure work is completed safely and to required standards

  • Work collaboratively with operators, engineers and maintenance teams to optimise plant performance

  • Participate in on‑call and availability rosters to support unplanned works and operational needs

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance reliability, safety and efficiency

What you will bring

  • Trade qualification in Mechanical Fitting (or equivalent)

  • Experience maintaining power generation assets or heavy industrial plant (large rotating equipment highly regarded)

  • Strong diagnostic and fault‑finding capability across mechanical systems and equipment

  • Experience working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems

  • Demonstrated commitment to health, safety and environmental standards

  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multi‑disciplinary team

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders

  • Experience using maintenance systems such as SAP or similar CMMS
