Duties & Responsibilities

  • Studying drawings and specifications to determine suitable material, read jo instructions and specifications.
  • Joining metal sections using various welding techniques machine setting, operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal using manual metal arc welding (MMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW) or gas tungsten metal arc welding GTAW) as required.
  • Cutting marked-out metal sections and shapes using hand tools, for the repair and maintenance of agricultural machinery and equipment in fitting fabricated metal parts into products and assembling metal parts.
  • Checking fitting fabricated and assembled metal parts for accuracy, using precision measuring instruments, examine work for defects, and measure with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Set up and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade such as MMAW and GMAW welders, grinders, and drills.
  • Set up and operate oxy-acetylene equipment for heating and cutting steel sections and plate.
  • Detect faulty operation of equipment and/or defective materials or products and notify supervisors.
  • Undertake all other reasonable tasks and duties within your skill and ability, as directed.
  • Ensure workshop is always kept clean and tidy, walkways are clear and participate in housekeeping programs.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Qualifications and/or employment background with demonstrated mechanical and ideally agricultural maintenance skills and knowledge.
  • Previous experience in food processing, welding and/or fabrication would be advantageous.
  • Current unencumbered Driver's License.
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced environment with a can-do attitude.
  • Team player who can work effectively with people from different backgrounds.
  • Awareness and ability to adhere to WHS requirements.
  • Flexibility in hours worked to achieve operational targets.
