Engineer, Senior Mining

Working in a strategic Alliance with Thiess and Harmony, you will form part of a collaborative team, driven by shared objectives and values to deliver operational excellence at the Eva Copper Mine Project.

The Eva Copper Mine Project is located on the traditional lands of the Kalkadoon People in North West Queensland, approximately 75 km north-west of Cloncurry and about 95 km north-east of Mount Isa. 

The Project is an iron-oxide copper-gold resource featuring multiple open pits and is poised to become the largest greenfield copper mine in Queensland.

The opportunity: 

Roster: 8 Day On, 6 Days Off | Location: Eva Copper, Queensland | Employment Type: Fulltime

Are you an experienced mining engineer with a passion for operational excellence and innovative solutions? Thiess is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Mining Engineer to join our dynamic team at the Eva Copper Mine Project in the Cloncurry region of Queensland, Australia. In this role, you will play a key part in delivering safe, efficient, and sustainable mining operations, driving technical excellence and supporting project success.

As a key member of the Eva Copper Alliance team, you’ll be responsible for delivering high‑quality mine planning and mine engineering processes to support safe, efficient operations and ensure our workforce meets Thiess and industry standards. You will be responsible for the development and rollout of efficient mining plans, schedules and excavator dig and dump designs. As the facilitator of the site mine planning process, the role requires strong collaboration with key stakeholders. This role will also work with the corporate and client mine planning teams to provide designs, and schedules to support the execution of the mine plan.

Working an 8 / 6 roster and reporting to the Technical Services Manager, your duties will include:    

• Optimise designs, schedules and fleet mix across the Daily to 3-Month planning horizon to deliver for the business and client,
• Work closely with the corporate and client mine planning teams to coordinate the Thiess plan for periods greater than 3 months,
• Work with key stakeholders on short-term planning & operational issues,
• Communicate any changing plans across the wider team,
• Develop strong working relationships with the operations team,
• Weekly and Monthly production reporting,
• Lead, coach and mentor team members in mine planning and drill and blast disciplines

About you

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Mining or Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
• Minimum 3 years’ operational mining engineering experience (open cut preferred).
• Experience with MS Office, Vulcan, SPRY, Deswik or similar software
• Ability to work collaboratively within a small team environment.
• Experience leading and developing teams
• A commitment to the best practice of health and safety at all times
• Excellent behavioural, time management, analytical, verbal and written communication skills.
