Due to continued growth, we are seeking Field Service and Workshop Fitters to join our award-winning Mt Isa team, being responsible for the servicing, maintenance, and repair of Caterpillar mobile and fixed plant equipment, ensuring high standards of safety, quality, and customer service are maintained at all times. These are permanent, full-time positions with multiple roster options available from 7/7 Day Shift (FIFO arrangements also available) or Monday – Friday for local residents.

What you’ll be doing
As a Fitter at Hastings Deering, you will:

  • Deliver expert diagnostics, repairs and service – perform diagnostics, maintenance and repairs on Caterpillar equipment to a high standard.
  • Keep machines running – carry out breakdown, preventative and scheduled maintenance to minimise downtime.
  • Maintain accurate records – complete detailed service reports and documentation in line with business requirements.
  • Safety first – ensure compliance with safety, quality and environmental standards at all times.
  • Work as one team – collaborate with supervisors and team members to achieve operational targets.
  • Exceed customer expectations – provide high‑quality service outcomes for customers on site.
  • Keep customers in the loop – involve customers in key decisions on major repairs or replacements, and provide clear, timely updates on job progress.

What you’ll need:  

A successful teammate will have experience in: 

  • Hold a recognised trade qualification – with relevant certification for heavy diesel or mechanical work.
  • Bring hands‑on industry experience – exposure to earthmoving, construction, quarrying or open‑cut mining environments.
  • Communicate with confidence – well‑developed communication and customer service skills.
  • Work independently and as part of a team – capable of managing tasks autonomously while supporting shared goals.
  • Be tech‑savvy – demonstrated ability to work confidently with electronic devices and systems.
  • Leverage CAT systems experience – hands‑on experience with Caterpillar diagnostic and information systems (ET, VIMS, SIMSi and SIS).
  • Safety-minded – a strong commitment to workplace health, safety and compliance standards at all times.
  • Perform under pressure – able to remain focused and productive during peak periods.
  • Add extra value – previous OEM or dealership experience will be highly regarded.
