Description

Create your best future and join Westpac as a Dealing Room Risk Manager / Senior Manager - Commodities, Trade & Transition (CTT)

What’s the role?

As a Dealing Room Risk Manager / Senior Manager within Commodities, Trade & Transition (CTT), you’ll lead risk governance and oversight for structured commodity financing transactions, and have an understanding of pre‑export finance, inventory finance, receivables‑based structures and commodity trading strategies.

You’ll partner closely with Front Office, Treasury, Technology and Finance to support end‑to‑end structuring, establish governance and market risk metrics (VaR, stress tests, risk factor sensitivities) and frameworks, and assess impacts to liquidity and leverage. A key focus of the role is designing and overseeing monitoring frameworks, including commodity collateral valuation, performance triggers, and early‑warning indicators.

You’ll provide independent challenge and expert advice to senior stakeholders, define data and analytics requirements for structured finance, and support the responsible growth of the commodities business through strong risk discipline.

This is a permanent fulltime Sydney‑based role, with flexible work options (3 days in office)

What do I need?

  • Experience in commodities and/or structured finance, including complex or bespoke financing arrangements.
  • Strong capability in risk governance, policy development, and approval frameworks for structured products.
  • Experience assessing liquidity, leverage, and balance sheet impacts, partnering with Treasury and Finance.
  • Ability to design and oversee monitoring frameworks, including collateral valuation and performance triggers.
  • Strong senior stakeholder management skills, providing independent challenge and advice to Front Office and governance forums
  • A flexible and adaptable skillset, with well‑developed analytical and problem‑solving capability. A degree in a quantitative field and certifications (CFA, FRM) would be highly regarded.
  • End user experience in Front Office system solutions (i.e.,Murex) is desirable.
  • A strong understanding of commodity products including pricing.
  • Familiarity with Australian market risk regulation – particularly APS116, APS117 and APS180.
  • Proficient in market risk concepts such as sensitivity measures, VaR and stress testing.
